Let’s begin…

About this blog

Mentoring is often seen as a way of encouraging change.  A mentor is someone who shares their knowledge whilst guiding their mentee in the right direction; an altruistic ‘elder’ who supports the development of others. But what if mentoring could be more than that?  By employing a democratic approach the process expands to become a symbiotic relationship with the power to transform thinking and practice… and if you think that sounds magical – you are right!

In this blog I will share experiences of mentoring and offer tools you can use to develop your mentoring practice.  The resources are all created by me and all free for you to use!

And a bit about me…

Who am I? Always good to start with an existential question … I would describe myself as a teacher, mentor, researcher and author – and there we have it – identity confusion at its best! Like most people, I juggle a number of roles and that’s what makes life interesting. I focussed my Doctoral research on my work – so mentoring was never far from my thoughts. In addition, my ‘day job’ has provided me with the opportunity to set up mentoring programmes and develop qualifications for mentors.

The final role I listed was that of author – this is now a part of my identity and is something I love. As an author, my focus is to create work which is easy to understand and apply in practice – overly-academic texts (the sort which require a dictionary to decipher) leave me cold – I don’t read them as an academic .. so why should my readers?

So who am I?  All of the things mentioned above and hopefully more… the journey continues.
